The South Metro Short Film Festival (SMSFF) is a film festival for independent film makers resident in the south suburbs of Minneapolis / St. Paul, Minnesota. The festival takes place in early fall and provides a forum for film makers of all abilities. Submissions are accepted through approximately mid summer. Qualifying submissions (PG or tamer, and 10 minutes or less in length) are judged by a panel of "experts" and the top submissions are shown at the festival. One film will be selected as the Best of Show, i.e. the SMSFF overall winner, and will receive the SMSFF trophy, a cash prize (typically $100 to $200) and a one year membership to the Independent Feature Project of Minneapolis/St. Paul (i.e. the IFP/MSP, see www.ifpmsp.org). In addition, one film from the youth (15 and under) and adult (16 and over) divisions will be awarded Quality Entertainment Awards and a cash price (typically $25). Finally, we’re also anticipating a few special achievement awards such as Best Cinematography, Best Plot/Screen Play, and Best Sound Track.
